The Story of the Humble Onion Bhaji...

Originating from the South Indian state of Karnataka, a bhaji is a deep fried snack similar to a fritter or tempura.
In India, this teatime favourite is often quickly rustled up at home when guests visit, or when the family fancies a quick bite, or when you’re short of ingredients, or when it’s raining.  You see, there really is no reason required to treat your tastebuds to the irresistible, spicy, salty taste of an onion bhaji.  Any excuse will do!

A popular street food, the onion bhaji consists of just two main ingredients:  onions & chickpea flour.  Onions are chopped, diced or sliced, roughly coated in a paste of chickpea flour, water and spices and then thrown into a wok of boiling hot oil and left to bubble and bob around until golden brown before being rescued with a slotted spoon and drained to be served piping hot.  A usual accompaniment is a tangy, green chutney bursting with the freshness of coriander and mint.

So not only irresistible but also good for you!  Some of the most impressive health benefits of eating onions are:
  1. Onions are packed with nutrients;
  2. Low in calories;
  3. Loaded with antioxidants;
  4. Help in boosting digestive health;
  5. May possess antibacterial properties;
  6. Help in boosting bone density;
  7. Have been known to contain some cancer fighting compounds;
  8. May keep your heart healthy;
  9. Help in controlling blood sugar
AND eating onions daily can help you lose belly fat!

OK, so perhaps eating deep fried onions daily may not make your gut happy but it will certainly put a smile on your face!
Our mouthwatering onion bhajis are hissing and sizzling in the kitchen right now just waiting for your order.   You'll find them in the Starters section of the menu.

Go on, you know you want to.  You can thank us later x
